USDA Suspends Federal Funding for Solar Panels on Productive Farm Lands

She also said that solar panels manufactured by foreign adversaries will not be used in USDA projects.

Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) “will no longer deploy programs to fund solar or wind projects on productive farmland, ending massive taxpayer handouts.” She was joined by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Senator Marsha Blackburn, Senator Bill Hagerty, Representative John Rose, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden as she made the announcement.

The USDA reported that solar panels on farmland have increased by nearly 50 percent across the nation since 2012.

Secretary Rollins said, “Our prime farmland should not be wasted and replaced with green new deal subsidized solar panels. It has been disheartening to see our beautiful farmland displaced by solar projects, especially in rural areas that have strong agricultural heritage. One of the largest barriers of entry for new and young farmers is access to land. Subsidized solar farms have made it more difficult for farmers to access farmland by making it more expensive and less available.”

She continued, “We are no longer allowing businesses to use your taxpayer dollars to fund solar projects on prime American farmland, and we will no longer allow solar panels manufactured by foreign adversaries to be used in our USDA-funded projects.”

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 cut back on subsidies for utility-level solar and wind projects, and the Interior Department announced that Secretary Doug Burgum will individually review all wind and solar projects going forward.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For USDA Secretary Rollins as she collaborates with other officials on protecting productive American farmland from solar projects.
  • For Interior Secretary Burgum to receive God’s wisdom as he reviews the solar and wind projects for federal subsidies.
